What Is SLS Printing?
SLS, or Selective Laser Sintering, uses a laser to fuse nylon powder layer by layer. Because the surrounding powder supports the part during printing, SLS can produce complex shapes, internal features, and strong functional parts without traditional support structures.
Strong & Durable
Great for nylon parts that need strength, toughness, and functional performance.
Complex Geometry
Excellent for parts with internal channels, organic shapes, and no-support designs.
Functional Prototypes
Useful for testing fit, form, strength, and real-world mechanical performance.
Small-Batch Production
Good option for short production runs and end-use nylon components.
Best Applications
- Functional prototypes
- End-use nylon parts
- Automotive brackets and housings
- Engineering components
- Complex geometries and assemblies
- Small-batch production parts
Pros & Limitations
Pros
No support structures, strong nylon parts, complex shapes, good durability, production-ready feel.
Limitations
Higher cost than FDM/SLA, longer lead time, slightly rougher surface, fewer color options.
SLS Materials
Most common SLS material. Strong, durable, and versatile.
More flexible and impact-resistant than PA12.
Flexible powder-bed option for rubber-like parts.
